Fischbein

Fischbein entsteht direkt vor Ort. Eine Nähmaschine der Marke „Fischbein“ hängt an einem Stahlseil von der Decke herab. Kurz über dem Boden, eine aufrechtgestellte Restrolle Zeitungspapier liefert das Ausgangsmaterial. Mit einem Griff wird das Papier von der Rolle gezogen, zu einem Strang geformt und genäht. Dieser wird dann schlaufenartig an sich selbst genäht. Ähnlich einem keramischen Aufbauprozess entsteht in der maschineninduzierten Drehung eine plastische Struktur, deren weitere Ausformung stark an Wespennester erinnert. Aus der Überdrehung und der Sprödigkeit des Materials heraus reißt der „Trichter“ irgendwann ab. Der Prozess setzt neu an und wächst in den Raum, bis das Ausgangsmaterial verbraucht ist. Dauer der Performance ca. 10 Stunden.

“Fishbein” is produced directly on-site. A “Fischbein”-brand sewing machine hangs down from the ceiling on a steel cable. Just above the floor, an upright roll of leftover newsprint forms the starting material. With a single hand movement, the paper is pulled from the roll, formed into a strand and stitched. This strand is then stitched to itself to form a loop. Similar to the process of building up a ceramic vessel, the machine-induced rotation produces a sculptural structure whose form strongly resembles that of a wasp nest. Through over-rotation and the brittleness of the material, the “funnel” breaks off at some point. The process starts over, the form growing upwards in the room until the starting material is consumed. Duration of the performance: approx. 10 hours.
